SRM Engineering College is part of SRM University (Sri Ramaswamy Memorial University). SRM University is a private co-educational university that began in 1985 as SRM Engineering College. In 2002, the institute was granted deemed status and renamed SRM Institute of Science and Technology. It became SRM University in 2006 when it was granted full university status under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956.

- SRM University has a strong track record of placing graduates with reputable companies. Three companies made a total of 3689 offers on the first day.
- The first day included visits to three reputable companies: Cognizant, Infosys, and Wipro. Cognizant provided 1502 job opportunities, followed by 1105 from INFOSYS and 1082 from WIPRO. Most companies offer salaries ranging from 3.0 to 3.5 lakhs per year.
- In addition, over 50 other companies have hired 600 students. Some corporations have offered paid internships to approximately 200 graduating seniors.

- Web arch Club: The University's Webarch club is primarily responsible for developing websites for various cultural and technical fests held at SRM University. Arts and Culture Club: This club organizes a variety of cultural events throughout the year in order to foster creative youth.

- Tarana: It's a convergence of ideas, a perfect combination of skills, arts, and a burning desire to succeed. Taran organizes a Talent Fest once a year, and it is an excellent opportunity for all artistic students from all institutions to participate and showcase their creative talent.

Scholarships
- Scholarship for the Founder: Tuition, books, hostels, and mess fees are waived, as is a monthly stipend of Rs.1,000 for top state, SRMEEE, JEE, and AIEEE rankers, athletes, and socioeconomically disadvantaged students.
- Scholarship for Academic Excellence: Fee waiver of 50% for students scoring above 95% in CBSE or State Board examinations.
- Merit-cum-means Scholarship: Based on their performance in the qualifying examination, students who are economically challenged receive a tuition fee waiver ranging from 25% to 100%.
- Scholarships for exceptional achievement: Some students with exceptional skills in literary debating, fine arts, and other areas are eligible for tuition fee waivers of up to 100%.
